2024-2025 Season Information

Registration for the 2024-25 season will open June 1st, 2024. Registration will remain open until all spots are filled, then athletes will be placed on a waitlist. We open more spots in each age group as we collect enough players on the waitlist to form a new team.

Waitlisted players are required to pay at the time of registration.  If a player has been waitlisted, they will be notified if a spot becomes available.  If the player is not offered a spot by the time the season commences, a full refund of the waitlist registration fee will be issued.

Age Category Birth Year Registration Fee

U9 Tyke Fall 2016 - 2018 $60
U11  2014 - 2015 $435
U13 2012 - 2013 $435
U15  2010 - 2011 $435
U18 Fall 2007, 2008, 2009 $225

Proof of Age

All players must provide a copy of their birth certificate or Alberta Health Care card at the time of registration (CMBA will not register a player unless they have received this proof of age).  A player's registration will not be accepted or considered complete until this has been received (even if payment has been made). Please have a copy of this documentation ready to upload when registering on-line.

Volunteers

The success of Cochrane Minor Basketball relies on the dedicated commitment of volunteers all of whom work for the benefit of our players and the community-at-large.  In an effort to garner volunteer assistance, thereby making a basketball season possible and more enjoyable for everyone, Cochrane Minor Basketball requires all parents to volunteer time to help ensure an efficient and enjoyable basketball experience.

Each family is expected to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours (2 hours for U18) per season.

VOLUNTEER DEPOSIT
The volunteer deposit of  $150.00 ($75 for U18) will be charged at the time of registration if one or more volunteer jobs have not been selected.  Only one volunteer deposit per family is required.

Notwithstanding time and score keeping commitments, for those of you who prefer to make a donation of $150.00 in lieu of volunteering, you may do so by not choosing a volunteer job and paying the fee.

SCOREKEEPER/TIMEKEEPER - FAMILY PARTICIPATION IS MANDITORY, this is outside of your volunteer obligations.  Coaches and Managers of teams are obviously not included in the rotation, but each player's family outside of those members must take their turn time or score keeping.

HOW TO FULFILL VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:

The team’s manager will be in charge of assigning positions on each team, you may be asked to volunteer for something you did not sign up for as we only have so many volunteer jobs available for each team. It is each family’s own RESPONSIBILITY to meet the volunteer commitment and ensure that their hours are reported to their manager accurately.

Positions that are available to choose from for the upcoming season are as follows:

  • Coach, Co-Coach, Assistant Coach
  • Team Manager
  • League Equipment Manager
  • Evaluations:  Player Check in  (1 hour credit per session attended)
  • Evaluations:  Evaluator (2 hour credit per session attended)
  • Storing/Transport of Equipment Trailer
  • Team Equipment Manager
  • Team Year-End Party (1 hour credit)
  • Scorekeeper/Timekeeper/Gym Monitor Team Coordinator
  • Gym Monitor (minimum of 4 games/season to fullfill requirements)
  • U9 Tyke volunteer
  • Facebook Team Update Coordinator

Please see the CoMBA website for volunteer descriptions

Uniforms

Each player will be given a uniform that is to be worn at games only, NOT practices.  These are to be returned at the end of the season as a complete set (jersey & shorts), washed and in good condition.  Any players who have not returned their uniforms within a reasonable amount of time will be charged $150 to their credit card (or invoiced via email).  U9 Tyke do not require a uniform return as they are given a practice jersey to be kept by the athlete.

Financial Assistance

CoMBA works with both KidSport Calgary and Canadian Tire Jumpstart to assist with payment of registration fees.  For more information and to apply go to kidsportcanada.ca/alberta/calgary or jumpstart.canadiantire.ca

Refund Policy / Withdrawals

Players who wish to withdraw must contact the CoMBA administrative coordinator directly in by email prior to September 1st. Players who withdraw prior to September 1st will receive a full refund minus a $50 administration fee. After September 1st no refunds will be issued.  Other withdrawals with special circumstances (e.g. medical issues) will be dealt with on an individual basis by the CoMBA executive.

Requests to Play Up

Any player wishing to play in a higher age division must register in their appropriate age category and then apply by email to cochraneminorbasketballassoc@gmail.com, to “play up”.  Applications will be considered on a first come first serve case by case basis, only if numbers permit.  Priority will be given to children within the age category.  If a bid to play up is unsuccessful normal refund policy will be enforced.

Late Registrations

Calgary Minor Basketball freezes team rosters after the first seeding round and at this time Cochrane Minor Basketball can no longer accept registrations.  Until this point, if there is space on existing teams, we will consider late registrations on a case-by-case basis.  The website will reflect which divisions will still accept late registrations.
