Equal Opportunity Policy

Cochrane Minor Basketball (CoMBA) Equal Opportunity Policy

CoMBA supports equal opportunity inside its organization.  This opportunity extends past equal playing time.  CoMBA expects all players to be given equal opportunity on and off the court by all volunteers, parents and spectators.  This includes but is not limited to:

  • Establishing limited roles to players such as redlighting shooting from certain areas or limiting areas on the court to players.  Eg. selecting an individual to be established in a 'POST' position only.  There is a fine difference in coaching a player into good decision making and denying such player opportunity to grow.
  • Punishment or the use of punishment to diminish a player for taking an opportunity whether it was a good decision or not will not be tolerated.  Creating power indifferences in sport by the use of control by a coach will not be tolerated and creates both and negative and dangerous space.
  • Playing time in practice will be equal.  If a player is not participating or a players commitment level is not standard to the team, the coach may apply to the board for help in establishing a new precedent for the team.
  • Players will be given positive reinforcement for all decisions.  The use of positive reflection for growth is expected.
