Program Information

The following is a brief introduction to our programs. Our U11 to U18 teams participate in the Calgary Minor Basketball League. Calgary Minor Basketball League is a tiered program so players of all skills and levels will find appropriate levels of competition. Games are played on Saturdays in Calgary at a variety of locations throughout the season. We make an effort to keep all practices in the town of Cochrane at the available schools. Generally we try to schedule practices on Tuesdays and Thursday however that may change due to gym availability. Please review the following information and subsequent notes. If you should have any further questions please send your queries to cochraneminorbasketballassoc@gmail.com

*Evaluations: CMBA believes in having players play on teams compatible with their skill level. Where numbers warrant more than one team in an age category CMBA will hold evaluations to determine player placement. The desire is to generally field as competitive a team as possible with the available players. Accordingly, players will be placed on the team for which their abilities are most compatible. Please see our Cochrane Minor Basketball Evaluations tab for more information.

**Uniform/Basketball Deposit: This deposit is to cover the costs associated with loss or damage of the uniform. At the completion of the season, when the uniform is returned in suitable condition the uniform deposit will be returned or the post dated cheque destroyed. For damaged or partially returned uniforms, the uniform deposit cheque for the player it pertains to will be cashed. Please see our Uniform Policy under the Cochrane Minor Basketball Policies tab for more information.

***Volunteer Deposit: In an effort to garner volunteer assistance, thereby making a basketball season possible and more enjoyable for everyone, Cochrane Minor Basketball requires all parents to volunteer time to help ensure an efficient and enjoyable basketball experience. A family is expected to volunteer a minimum of 4 hours (2 hours for U18) per season per registered player. There is a list of positions available on the Volunteer Policy and Volunteer Description tabs both under the Cochrane Minor Basketball Policies tab. For those of you who prefer to make a donation in lieu of volunteering, you may do so with a credit card online. However please note that time and score keeping at games is required of all members of a team as a necessary part of league operations.  It does not count towards your volunteer hours, nor does paying the donation excuse you from the task.

Any player wishing to leave the program throughout the season must notify the administrative and make arrangements to return their uniform to Cochrane Minor Basketball Association directly. If these steps are not taken the player will then forfeit their volunteer and uniform deposit check.

Any player wishing to play in a higher age division must register in their appropriate age category and then apply by email to cochraneminorbasketballassoc@gmail.com, to “play up”.  Applications will be considered on a first come first serve case by case basis, only if numbers permit.  Priority will be given to children within the age category.  If a bid to play up is unsuccessful normal refund policy will be enforced.

Calgary Minor Basketball freezes team rosters after the first seeding round and at this time Cochrane Minor Basketball can no longer accept registrations.  Until this point, if there is space on existing teams, we will consider late registrations on a case-by-case basis.  The website will reflect which divisions will still accept late registrations.
