Provincial Tournament Participation

Basketball Alberta Provincial Tournament Participation

Alberta Basketball Association holds a provincial tournament each spring, either in Calgary or Edmonton.  Pending ABA's decisions they will post the divisions who qualify to participate.  During the 2023-24 season Division 1, 2, and 3 were able to go.  For the future they see up to 7 Divisions potentially participating.

Divisional Qualification

If you are tiered in any of the participating divisions and place in the top 3 during playoffs, you automatically qualify to participate in the Basketball Alberta Provincial Tournament with Cochrane Minor Basketball Association paying the registration fee.  Please note that all other expenses associated with attending the tournament such as travel, food and lodging are the responsibility of the team.  If you do not place in the top 3 of the specified divisions you may request to complete and be placed on a waiting list.  The team would need to split the registration fee and pay it up front to be on the wait list.  If a spot opens up due to a qualifying team backing out you may be selected to play in the tournament.

Administrative Support & Procedures

CoMBA supports qualifying teams participating in the Provincial Tournament and will administer the registration process with Basketball Alberta, administer practice gym times, cover the cost of the gym space and provide uniforms for the tournament.

CoMBA’s mandate is to ensure inclusion of all players on the season-roster of a qualifying team to ensure equal access by our players to Basketball Alberta’s Provincial Tournament and any regular season tournaments as well.

CoMBA does require that:

  • Coaches of qualifying teams will invite all players on the roster of the team that have played in the Calgary Minor Basketball Association league that season to participate in the Provincial Tournament.
