Cochrane Minor Basketball Association Volunteer Descriptions

SCOREKEEPER/TIMEKEEPER- FAMILY PARTICIPATION IS MANDITORY, this does not included in your volunteer obligations. 

Board Member: As an active member of the board, you will be expected to attend 5 to 6 meetings per year and assist in carrying our board functions. Refer to the document "FAQs for Potential Board Members" on the website for more information.

 

Coaches/Co-Coaches/Assistant Coaches: Teach players on a team to improve their basketball skills and play as a team. CMBA tries to have 2 coaches per team. Between the two coaches, at least one is required to attend one practice and one game (or two if Juvenile Division) each week (or find a temporary substitute coach if neither coach is able to attend a specific practice/game). Coached are encouraged to attend a coaching clinic and to abide by the coaches' code of conduct.

 

League Equipment Manager: Responsible for preparing equipment bags for evaluations in September. Also organize bags for teams in September by ensuring each team has sufficient balls, uniforms, first aid supplies,. etc. and arrange a pick-up time at Spray Lakes gym. You may need to respond to the occasional request for additional supplies during the season (e.g. more cold packs). At the end of the season, you are responsible for accepting returned equipment bags from the teams and confirming tha all contents have been returned (minus used first aid supplies).

 

Team Manager: Responsible for all administrative requirements of their team. This will include communicating information to parents and coaches they need to know about, ensuring schedules and team lists are circulated, ensuring the Cochrane Minor Basketball Player Code of Conduct and the Calgary Minor Player Code of Conduct is completed by each player as well as Cochrane Minor Basketball Coaches Code of Conduct and the Calgary Minor Coaches Code of Conduct is completed by each coach, distribution of team pictures, as well as maintaining the team website(new for 2012). Attend a information/training session in September.

 

Team Equipment Manager: Responsible for picking up the equipment bag from and returning it to the League Equipment Manager. Bags are to be returned at the end of the season with all balls, uniforms and other equipment. Bags must cleaned out of all garbage and all uniforms must be washed. You will also be required to transport the bag to/from practices/games if the coach prefers this. If you require additional first aid supplies and/or equipment, you will b responsible for contacting the League Equipment Manager for this.

Team Year-End Party: Responsible for organizing a year-end party for the team (Note: This position is given a 1 hour credit of volunteer time only)

 

Scorekeeper/Timekeeper/Gym Monitor Team Coordinator: Assigning a scorekeeper and timekeeper and a gym monitor for each game your team plays and ensuring parents that do this role are aware of how to do this job.

 

Gym Monitor: Ensuring that the spectators associated with their team behave in a manner consistent with the CMBA handbook codes of conduct and the participation agreements are signed by all players, coaches and spectators. If necssary, you would come to the assistance of the referees if an incident does happen and the referees indicate they need help. Note that the gym monitor can join the other parents on the sidelines (i.e. they need not "stand apart" or stay in a specific spot during the game. They would only "need to take action" in the event one of the spectators from our tem demonstrates unsportsmanlike conduct). To full-fill your volunteer commitment, you would need to perform this role for at least a third of the games.

 

Team Merchandising Coordinator: Collecting and organizing order forms from team members and distributing CMBA merchandise that has been purchased by your team.

 

Team Blog Coordinator: Provide weekly updates to your teams activities and results on the website.

 

Casino Worker: Cochrane Minor Basketball and Calgary Minor Basketball will require volunteers for casino's in the specific years when a casino is held. NOTE: For Cochrane Minor Basketball there are 30 volunteers required and for Calgary Minor Basketball there are 2 volunteers required). The membership will be notified ahead of time when volunteers will be required.

 

 

Helpers at Provincials: Provincials are held in the Calgary area from time to time and when this happens we will need volunteers to step up and help. The membership will be notified ahead of time when volunteers will be required.
