Cochrane Minor Basketball Association (CoMBA) believes in having players play on teams compatible with their skill level. The Platinum program will be using the results from the initial CoMBA evaluations to determine if the teams meet the requirement set out to create a competitive focused team. If the team meets the requirements, the Platinum program will reach out to the top athletes from the evaluation to attend an additional evaluation. The Platinum program will be optional for athletes and they can opt out and play Kodiaks as desired. Be aware the Platinum program will have an additional fee due if you make the team and choose to play. See the Programs Tab on the website for more Platinum program information. This same information on the evaluation process for the Platinum program can also be found on the website under the Platinum Tab.
Once evaluations are complete, the Administrator will notify the coaches, parents, and players of team selections.
Each season, the evaluation committee will nominate a Facilitator to conduct player evaluations. They will also nominate an Evaluation Team to assess players during the evaluations which will normally include the Head Coach and selection committee. The Head Coach is chosen and appointed by the Platinum program and the selection committee is made up of the President and VP’s sitting on the evaluations committee. The Head Coach and selection committee will decide on the best team possible and will use the evaluation results to determine player placement and suggest team placement within Calgary Minor Basketball (CMBA) divisions. Final decisions will be at the discretion of the President in conjunction with the selection committee.
Platinum player evaluations will be conducted in September (See schedule).
Each Player could be called back to a total of 2 additional 60-120-minute evaluations. Keep a close eye on the schedule. Emails will be sent out for call backs.
During each session, facilitator(s) will provide instruction to the players while evaluators observe, and rank skills based on predetermined criteria. Members of the selection team will be present for each age category. Players will be expected to follow the instructions provided by the facilitator(s) and will not be “individually coached.” Our goal is to accurately evaluate each player’s skill level based on their current abilities. Sessions will be closed to parents and parent coaches. If the parent is on the selection committee they will be allowed to attend. No other exceptions apply.
There will not be any make-up sessions: The Board may consider extenuating circumstances if they are notified of the scheduled conflict by Aug 1 of the playing year. In the case of an injury prior to the session, proper notice by phone or email before the start of the session is required. In the case notice is not provided the player will be placed at the bottom of the ranking.
Disputes: If a player, parent, or coach strongly disagrees with placement of any player, they can voice their concerns using the CoMBA Complaint Procedure.
Late Registration: If a player registers post-evaluation and team selection, they must be evaluated by at least two selection committee members. The player will be evaluated using the same criteria as regulatory scheduled evaluations and placed on the most appropriate team after discussion with the affected coach and approval by at least three board members. Late registrations will not be accepted if all teams within the applicable group already have a maximum number of players.
